Bad Habits That Can Damage The Teeth

Without realizing it, sometimes we have some bad habits that can affect oral health. This bad habit is not easy, but it can be done if the intended and had the will to a better direction.
1. Smoke
Smoking is one of the most bad habits and can cause long term damage to both the dental and oral health. Smoking can also cause stains on teeth and bad breath. Long-term effects, smoking can increase gum disease and slow the healing process.

2. Bruxism / gnash teeth while sleeping
Habit of rubbing the teeth between the teeth of the maxilla and mandible, or bruxism, usually occurs unconsciously when stressed. Some people also experience it in his sleep. These habits can make the surface of the tooth enamel becomes thinner, and even cause cracks in the tooth structure, and damage to fillings.
3. Chewing food on one side
Some people have a habit of chewing on one side only. This habit is usually caused by pain or pain on one side of the tooth in particular. This can result in serious problems or abnormalities in the jaw joint.
4. Biting hard objects
This habit is usually a distribution of stress or a lot of minds. "Victims" bite usually pencils, pens, nails, TV remote, or other hard objects. this can make the tooth surface to be eroded, even cracks in the tooth structure.
5. Make your teeth as scissors or a bottle opener
Ever see a toothpaste ad on TV that show people using teeth to open the bottle cap, tore the packaging of food, cut the label of new clothes? This kind of heavy duty borne by the improper teeth, because it would damage the structure.
6. Chewing ice
Many people habitually chew on ice cubes, especially the remaining ice after an ice cold beverage. Hard and cold temperatures of ice cubes can actually cause teeth to fracture. It could even be made part of the damaged tooth enamel. Dentists recommend to let the ice melt in the mouth such as eating candy, not even destroy the teeth.
7. Sucking on lemons
If done on a continuous basis, the citric acid in lemons can leach important minerals in the tooth and scrape the outer surface of the teeth, making teeth become sensitive to cold foods or beverages. However, this situation does not mean that you should give up on all citrus fruits. You just need to make sure that you do not continue to suck in your mouth for a long time.
8. Brushing too hard
Many think that by applying more pressure when brushing or using a feathered brush makes the teeth more shiny hardware. This is a false myth that should be avoided. If you brush too hard or using a hard toothbrush hairy, can damage the protective enamel on your teeth. It also can cause receding gums and tooth sensitivity increases.
9. Nail Biting
Nail biting habit can be bad for your teeth. This can cause your front teeth broken or cracked. Not only that, the habit of nail biting will provide an opportunity for germs and bacteria in the nail to go into the oral cavity and cause gum infection.
10. Thumb Sucking
Thumb sucking is one of the most common habits among children. But this can interfere with the position of the upper and lower front teeth, thus causing the upper teeth extend out or crooked. One treatment that can be done is to orthodontic treatment.
